Yes, that's it exactly. The other version of 2536 is exactly the same
as your 2536, except the base male connector is slightly longer.
The two versions are completely inter-compatible. Connections made with
the longer version are slightly stronger - they don't come apart as
easily when you bend the two pieces.

The Technic parts are actually a third variation, they have cross-axle
teeth in the underside hole.
