Are there any alternate models in the instructions or on the box which may
use these parts?

We all know about the (so far) un-explained 2x2 round R2D2 bricks in the
Statue of Liberty set...it also had extra larger bricks (like 2x8), whereas
most extras are just 1x1 round plates, technic bushes & small stuff like that.
