Wow! The OCR technology is amazing, but unfortunately they diddn't
put much effort into the scans themselves.
The issue of scan quality is sure to resurface, as long as print media
shows up online. The ultimate solution is to export images at the desired
resolution (~100dpi usually) directly from the layout software used to
publish the catalogs. That would result in perfect quality, with predictable
consistency. If the publishing software doesn't support the desired
resolution/format, it can be exported in just about any format and easially
converted by the online site.
