Four would be sufficient, but they'd have to be arranged in a
tetrahedral formation, which I don't think can be readily done for
geosynchronous satellites. There are more fundamental flaws with the
idea, though. (You'd want some sort of thrusters, not floating
magnets... and the thrusters would have to be powerful enough to
accelerate their propellant to escape velocity, which would do
Horrible Things to the environment.)
