Phil doesn't berate someone for their hobbies. He uses stuff like this the
way "The Onion" or "MAD" does, as social commentary in general. (did anyone
read the article "Plans to get laid at Dragoncon fail")? Besides bad
publicity intentional, unintentional or imagined is still publicity.
I'm more than proud to stand up and say "I'M A NERD!" I fully accept it.
I'll even wave a flag and sing it. As a matter of fact I make a living being
a nerd and a geek (not the side show type, not there is anything wrong with
that). Don't take this Lego hobby too seriously, remember they are toys.
Lego may mean more to others in an emotional way more than the general
populace, and I don't want to belittle that, but at the end of the day, in
their dust proof boxes with the hand made labels, sorted by color and size,
with a room of their own, they are still toys.

(...) I voted. But not for LEGO. Most of the hobbies listed were more "oddball" (not that I particularly care for the term). And I'm not sure that winning this poll would be anything other than fodder for less than favorable publicity. ++Lar (23 years ago, 7-Nov-01, to lugnet.general)
