If you thought juniorization applied only to LEGO and that they couldn't
possibly do anything to juniorize DUPLO, take a look at what I discovered
while sorting through our Duplo collection.  I was trying to disassemble the
table on the left so I could put the 2x2 brick away, but it wouldn't come
apart.  Then I discovered that a table that used to take the three pieces on
the right to build now comes as a single element.

On the bright side I suppose it won't be such a letdown for kids to discover
Town Jr. if they've been brought up on Duplo Jr.  :-(

I can understand not liking juniorization in Lego.  I'm not a fan of the
juniorization in Lego either.  I do think it would be okay if they had "Lego
Junior" sets instead of juniorizing everything.  In regards to Duplo, I
think that juniorization is fine there.  The blocks are designated for
younger children may have a hard time balancing the plates on the block.  I
have both versions of the table and prefer the juniorized table.  There is
also a rectangular table made the same way.

Ah, I see where you have a point about young children having possible
difficulty pressing down on the semi-circle plates right over the studs.  But I
don't think that should be as big a problem with the rectangular tables, and if
it is the case with the circular ones, why not use a single round plate in
place of the two semicircular ones rather than going to a single element?  I
think the benefit both to creativity and building technique derived from the
experience of building useful and familiar items out of discrete pieces far
outweighs the possible frustration caused by an occasional challenging to place
piece.
