LEGO Systems Appoints Andrew Black as President; Former Nike Executive Joins
Toy Company as Peter Eio Retires After 20 Years of Service
ENFIELD, Conn.--LEGO Systems, Inc. (LSI), the Americas division of one of
the world's leading toy companies, today announces the appointment of Andrew
K. Black as President. Black will be based at the company's Enfield,
Connecticut headquarters, and replaces Peter Eio, who plans to retire after
20 years of service in June.
As President of LEGO Systems, Andrew Black will serve on the Company's
Global Management Team, and specifically will oversee all marketing, sales
and operations for the Americas market, including the United States, Canada
and Latin America. Before joining LEGO Systems, Black spent four years at
NIKE, Inc., based in Beaverton, Oregon, as General Manager of the U.S.
Equipment Division, and most recently as Director of New Business. Prior to
his tenure at Nike, Black was employed at Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc., the
largest division of London-based Cadbury-Schweppes plc. from 1989 to 1996,
when he left as Vice President of U.S. Marketing. Black began his consumer
marketing career at Colgate-Palmolive, serving several senior brand roles
between 1984 and 1989. A native Canadian, Black holds a B.A. in Economics
from Queen's University in Ontario, Canada. He resides in Avon, Connecticut
with his wife and three daughters.
Peter Eio has served as President of LEGO Systems since 1989, when he
relocated to Enfield to head up the U.S. market division of Denmark-based
toy company. Prior to his relocation to Enfield, he was Managing Director of
LEGO U.K. Limited.
Since joining LEGO Systems, Inc., Peter Eio has led the consistent growth of
LEGO Company business in the Americas. He was instrumental in spearheading
the Company's first global license agreement with Lucasfilm, creating the
very successful universe of LEGO(R) Star Wars(TM) products. Prior to joining
the LEGO Company, Eio was employed for 11 years with International Playtex,
Inc. in Britain, Denmark and Sweden.
Though he will retire to the southern coast of Connecticut with his wife,
Eio plans to continue working part-time as an independent consultant and as
a member of various corporate and not-for-profit boards.

My thoughts...the change of the guards. In come the new...out go the old.
As always...in a lot of companies. A new president wants to bring their own
team of management. So, I see the brick getting a face lift and the LEGO
logo getting fanzy TV ads and more tie-ins with other products that have
nothing to do with the brick. Since 2002 sets are in final details to be
ready to be launch in about 7 months. Its 2003 I wonder about
