I have just successfully completed my first ever robotic combat! Details for
all who care are below:
Specs:

Duck
Duck is a wireless treaded robot operated via the remote. Its main brain is
a Scout, but it also has a slave Microscout that gives power to its weapon
(a rotating spike) when it sees light. So a flashlight was used. Duck is
slow and heavy but has lots of pushing power.

Little Idiot
Little Idiot is a bot controlled (via wires) by an RCX brain. It can move
forward, backward, left and right on two large wheels. It also has a pick
axe operated via a battery box, so its weapon was up and down mobility.
Idiot is significantly faster than Duck, but since its computer isn't on
board, it weighs less and can be pushed around.

Battle! (approx. 5 mins):

The bout started off with Little Idiot seeking shelter from the signals of
Duck's remote control. When a good control point was reached, the fight
started for real. Little Idiot came out fast and went for Duck's rear. But
Duck turned around and surprisingly managed to climb on top of Idiot and
tried to rip its wires out. Unsuccessful. Duck was shaken off by Idiot who
then proceeded to turn around and face Duck head to head. Idiot used his axe
repeatedly on Duck's rotating spike, but the axe broke! As Idiot tried to
figure out what to do without a primary weapon, Duck moved in. It got its
spike under Idiot and managed to ramp its foe partially into the air.
Fortunately, one of Idiot's wheels was still barely touching the ground and
the two bots were separated. As Idiot slid off of Duck, Duck's spike was
pulled off! By this point neither bot had a primary weapon. Idiot's was
reduced to a motorized axle, and Duck just has a big blunt front end useless
for lifting. The next few minutes was just a shoving match in which not much
was accomplished. Idiot finally managed to get what was left of his axe,
about 3 studs worth of plates and a protruding Technic beam, into one of
Duck's treads. Duck tried to move away and free himself, but in doing so
pulled his tread from the sprocket! Duck now only had one functioning
drivetrain. Idiot took advantage of Duck's plight. With only one motor
driving him in wide circles, Duck was a lot less powerful. Idiot managed to
wedge him into the corner where it was decided by the two drivers that
Little Idiot had prevailed!

Hopefully I'll have pics of the two bots later on. I already cleaned up the
mess after the fight.. I should have taken pictures of that.

(...) robots to actually rip each other apart...it looks like "Little Idiot" wasn't such an idiot after all ;-) ! I need to try a robot battle sometime... Do you have any pictures of the robots? BTW it might be a good idea to post this in the (...) (24 years ago, 23-Jan-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic)
