I for one am happier with the newer boxes that make it much easier to
tell if they have been tampered with, the old little tape like seals
could look like they had been opened when it had not (i.e. the box got
hit at a certain angle) or sometimes the opposite. The newer boxes
leave no doubt one way or the other. I cannot say that I have run
across different versions of boxes such as you mention before but I
have gotten 3 different years/versions of inserts (the LEGO club thing
and catalogs) from multiple copies of the same set bought at the same
time so things like that happen. I would assume that they are
different production runs and perhaps different production years as
many of this years new sets seem to use the same punch the disk in
packaging. the only people who might get unhappy with the change are
those people that open A LOT of sets, the ones with the tape seals
were real easy to open quickly, the newer boxes probably will go
slower.
