Man, I dunno. These are HUGE. 4 studs is almost the height of a minifig!
They may be OK for things like theatre names going vertically or company
names on the top of buildings, but at minifig scale, I don't see them as
suited for much else, too big.
Also a split will not give you very many of certain letters...
