"that new"?.. 8880 is from 1994 and brickshelf certainly have it. Go to:

http://www.brickshelf.com/scans/8000/8880/index.html

You can also check for 8440 at:

http://www.brickshelf.com/scans/8000/8440/index.html

Another friend suggested 8865 instructions to check, but the differential of
8865 is the older variety, which is a different part from the 5229
differential, but works as same in principal.

Check www.brickshelf.com for 8880 instructions. There are of course many
others.

This is the gears and differential set.
I was wondering if this set has any instructions?

Nope; it's a service pack -- just a bunch of stuff.

And what other sets have used the differential?

Most of the medium-large technic cars.
