Here's my two cents:

1)  as noted previously, keep your collection stored well - rubbermaid,
tepperware, or some similar reasonably-air-tight hardcore packaging system works
great

2)  take a small container of useful pieces (of all types) to school with you -
a small enough container that you can keep under your bed or in the bottom of
your closet or whatever.
    a)  the small selection of pieces shouldn't scare you - some of my most
creative ... um .... creations have come when I was strapped for pieces, and
started throwing things together in new ways for whatever I was building
    b)  taking a small pile (~100 or so?) of pieces and just playing with them
with your hands is great stress relief.  Actually, when I'm on the phone I'm
almost always putting something together.  I can't seem to bear to jsut sit
there and do nothing else.

3)  buy an occasional set while at school to reward yourself ... believe me,
people will probably be impressed if you have a cool construction on your desk.

You don't actually have to enter any Dark Ages, you know ;)  Dark Ages usually
refers to a period of disinterest in LEGO, wherein the collection usually
disappears.  I was lucky enough to never have one - admittedly, college was a
time when I  failed to follow the product line very much, and my LEGO purchases
were few and far between.  But I never stopped loving them, or building with
them whenever I got the chance.

have fun!

(...) This is really a good idea that I think probably anybody will benefit from. Sorting and storing all your pieces in separate containers is counterproductive, as you will have to get out a large number of boxes before you can even start (...) (24 years ago, 25-May-00, to lugnet.general)
