I visited the Lego Imagination Center at the Mall of America this evening and
thought I would share some of the titles and details of some of the upcoming
2000 sets.  Many of you may already know this but for those of you who don't,
here is a review of items that I thought noteworthy that have not already
received a lot of "airplay."

Formula One Racer: Set 8509
This upcoming Technic set looks as if it is modeled after the McLaren F1 car
rather than the usual Ferrari.

Roboriders: Sets 8509-8514
These are essentially wheeled throwbots packaged in plastic cans.  Of
significant note is set 8509 which contains lime-green parts.

Action Wheelers: Sets 2904-2914
These look like modernized Toolo sets and include a smoother, rounder look
than the Toolo sets of the past.

Grip-n-go Challenge: Set 6713
I'm not sure where to classify this set.It seemed to be located in the
City/Town section of the catalog.  The set consists of two clawed vehicles
that appear to fight over a large gray ball.

Duplo trains: Sets 2932-2933
These trains look like modern (yet small) bullet trains.

"Lost World" dinosaur series: Island Hopper, Set 5935
This set was a nice looking antique airplane.

These sets and more (such as Mickey Mouse Duplo) appeared in the Lego Y2K
catalog available for viewing at the cash registers.

As usual, the employees were friendly, helpful, and seemed genuinely excited
to see an AFOL.

Final note:  They had several idea book 260's remaining.

(...) Waitasecond...they actually *had* these in stock? Or was this just information passed? I must know--because if that Adventurers plane is out at the LIC, I'll be makin' a call tomorrow. best LFB (24 years ago, 11-Apr-00, to lugnet.general)
