And the letters and numbers are from parts packs.
They are probably #234 (letters) and #237 (numbers),
which were produced from 1957-64.  Or they could
be #487 (letters) and #488 (numbers) from circa 1965-67.
In circa 1968 they were switched to #987 (letters)
and #988 (numbers).

There are all blue numbers and letters printed on the
side of white 1x1 bricks.

Do these set numbers correspond at all to the
different styles of printing on the number and
letter 1x1 bricks?  The early '60s Samsonite letters
I have are in higher relief - i.e. thicker printing, and
are darker blue.  The late '60s European letters I have
are in lighter blue and a wider font, but flatter
on the brick.  It is not clear to me from the pictures
at Pause, which parts pack set numbers contained letters with
which kind of printing.

Also, has anyone made a list of which country variations
there are in these letter brick parts packs?  I know of
different Scandinavian, German, and English letter brick packs,
but I don't know if there were any other language-specific
letter brick packs.  Selçuk, was there a Turkish one?

(...) And I won't disappoint you, Alan! The named beams without LEGO on the studs are circa 1955-57. I have a few 1x6 white beams (some with names, some without) that don't have the LEGO logo.
