Pat, since no one else had stepped forward, here is the info you need to get any
answer about your 700/0 set. It is of European origin. All US LEGO sets, which
by the way started selling here in 1961, are made by Samsonite (1961-72) and are
in the 700 number range as well as the European sets. However, the US sets are
numbered 702, 703, 705, 708, 711, 717, 725. The European sets are numbered 700/0,
700/1, 700/2, 700/3, 700/3A .....etc.
Here is Horst Lehner's website (the part dealing with '50s & '60s LEGO sets). He
is from Germany, and this is a stunning collection of old LEGO catalogs. I must
say that in addition to Horst Lehner, Tore Erikkson, Joe Lauher (Bill Katz), and a
few others have the makings for a complete compilation of the classic era of LEGO
collecting ('50s-'70).
I hope Horst doesn't mind me sharing his awesome collection of early German
catalogs.
