Don't some people in Europe use 9,99 to mean what we in the US call $9.99?  I
seem to remember seeing the comma\period switch somewhere before.  I'd be
suprised if this didn't happen more often.

(...) Yes, they do. I personally do that with measurements (i.e. 3,5 instead of 3.5), but not with dollars. (25 years ago, 3-Feb-00, to lugnet.general)
