Is TLC (or TLG) traded on a public exchange ? Somewhere I go the idea
(impression) that it was privately held.

I had ordered a copy of TLC's (then TLG's) annual report a few months ago
for a school project. When it came, enclosed with it were a number of
pamphlets on the company. I happened to be flipping through one titled
"Developing a Product" last night and in it there were descriptions of each
Lego System theme that was available at the time of printing. I thought that
some people might be interested in what they had to say about the town
theme. The following is taken from the aforementioned pamphlet dated January
1998 and produced by Group Information & Public Relations, LEGO Group:

"The Town range is for children of five years and over. There are many
large and small model sets which enable children to create their own town.
The sets are developed with a focus on a five-year-old's typical skills and
interests. Classic everyday themes that five-year-olds know are featured --
e.g. police and fire stations, helicopters, motorbikes, trucks and all kinds
of cars.

The sets contain large elements to make sure that children can
quickly get on with their game. The large models are divided into smaller
sub-models because we know that children of this age have trouble keeping
track of lots of elements at once. The sub-models are packed in separate
bags and each bag has its own building instructions for the model in question."

So . . . for those of you that find town to easy to build, it seems that you
possess at least the skills of a six year old. :)

I hope this is of some interest to somebody. I thought it might be . . ..

(...) As far as I know TLC is privately owned. They still have an annual report though just to let people (those who are interested) know how they're doing. As far as the person who wanted to know how to get a copy of the Annual Report, I can't (...) (24 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)
