Hey.. instead of cleaning out the old ABS then loading the new, maybe let the
old ABS run nearly out, then load the new right on top. Theoretically (just a
theory.. I don't know a molding machine from a persian lapdog), you'll end up
with a couple kilos of "blend-molded" parts - maybe that marbley kind of effect
you find in "retro" plastic items. If an AFOL or AFOLgroup orders several kilos
of a particular part in a particular colour, make 'em pay for the extra ABS as
well - I'm sure there's a few castler's out there who'd jump at the chance to
get the transition bricks from a grey-to-black run for example. Heck, that kind
of element might become highly sought after.
Then again it might not be TLG policy, not official colour, or something like
that. And it depends on just how they do their molding, and how they intend to
put together LDirect, and so on.
Just a thought!
I wonder if...

I do not expect TLC to activate this simply for the needs of AFOL bulk
ordering, but if the mold is in the machine, how hard is it to switch
ABS colors ?

Whatever the size of the moulding machine it will take about 1/2 hour working
time plus the cost of the material lost to clean up the machine (ABS price is
usally around ranging from $1.75 to $3 each kg) that depending of the size of
the machine may be from a few grams to a few kg.
The major cost will be due to the lost machine time.

Bye
