I wasn't feeling very forgiving at the time I wrote that[3], so that
probably led to me seeing things that weren't intended.

Yup. That's what I gathered was your point, and yes, I did feel it was
obscured somewhat.
Anyway, I don't really think there's any way to resolve the issue one
way or the other.
What about 1970's dealer catalogs[4]? I seem to remember that certain
sets in Pause have pictures from a dealer catalog, and that half a
70's dealer catalog is/used to be archived on KL's site?
