If you mean fan groups/lists on the Internet in general, then, yes, I agree,
certainly a lot of that occurs regardless of the original motivations for
setting up such groups... But if you mean that the point of such groups on
LUGNET is to provide a means of gaining this type of information, then, no,
that's absolutely not correct.
It has always been, since day 1, a fundamental tenet of LUGNET to respect
the rights of the LEGO Company. And the legal rights of LEGO to restrict
information that they choose to restrict are more important than the
god-given [sic] "rights" of fans to trade illicit information. Sad but true
if you want to play all the angles and survive long-term.
Now, if you want to be the source of a leak of secret internal information,
I personally have no problems with you doing that. That's your right. But
please do it elsewhere, not here. OTOH, if you repeat things here that you
have heard first elsewhere (such as on RTL or rebelscum.com, for example), I
don't have any qualms about that, because once the cat's out of the bag,
it's out of the bag, as they say. But you still may want to think twice,
because you might get into some heat from TLC, who knows...(?)

I agree that it's in the best interest of the fans (individually). However,
those interests ought IMHO to be factored in with the best interests of the
vehicle providing the mechanism for us fans. It's a giant balancing scale.
I would really recommend that you set up a private mailing list somewhere if
you really wanted to distribute secret information. There's nothing
stopping you from doing that. Just try not to traffic it here.

LOL! Um, no. Hardly the case, actually.

Don't worry, I'm extremely resistant to that sort of thing. All of this
comes from the inside.
