Since I've been on a movie palace (theatre) kick lately ..... I was
looking at some of the Egyptian sets at KMART recently and I was
thinking about building an Egyptian themed theatre (sort of on the lines
of Grauman's Chinese in Hollywood, but with Egyptian accents).  Although
never as popular as the Oriental or Mayan themes, there are a few
theatres in the USA with an Egyptian style.

Sounds like a great idea! There is an Egyptian themed theatre in Miami (it is
a MoviCo branch, and is the fourth largest in the country). Personally, it is
my favourite theatre just for the wonderful themeing! Another theme you might
want to try is fifties style. Again, MoviCo has a huge 50's diner styled
theatre in Miami and it is another great theatre. Can't wait to see what you
come up with!

Hey Mark,  Besides the Egyptian Theatre (still in the planning stages), I
currently have under construction 2 other theatres.  They are the FOX THEATRE in
a Art Deco style with nothed arches, and the GRAND THEATRE, in the "Palace"
style.  This second one got its' name from an old 1x8 white LEGO brick with
"GRAND THEATRE" in red letters that I bought from Tim Coats recently.  The Grand
Theatre will be part of an 18 story office tower.

Recently I purchased a few books on Art Deco.  One was on Miami Beach's Art Deco
district.  I love the designs and pastel colors of the Miami Beach Deco hotels,
appartments and comercial buildings.  They are a great source of inspiration for
building.  I am going to translate some of this buildings into LEGO, especially
with some of the pink Paradisa pieces that I have put aside.   With some of the
curved pieces (2x2 macaroni bricks,  and 4x4 quarter circles), the later
streamlined Deco structures can be built of LEGO.  I am planning on building a
diner, a Deco Shell Station, and some other Deco buildings.

Gary, do you have a web site showing off all your completed models? I don't recall visiting one... I would like to see all your buildings. <ICS> (25 years ago, 23-Nov-99, to lugnet.general)
