--BEGIN TRANSMISSION--
Two days ago the Omicron Theta Shipyards proudly released its long awaited
Imperium science and exploration vessel, the Altanah Ne'denah.
Unlike any other vessel of its kind in the Imperium, this ship is designed for
long term space and scientific exploration. Its small crew of 8 persons will
consist of mostly of commissioned human scientists from various sectors of the
galaxy and a few Cratha command officers. As the Imperium has few scientists
experienced with exploration, the Imperium is relying heavily on the expertise
of contract ship designers for this vessel and is relying heavily on contract
scientists to comprise the necessary crew. The crew is augmented by two
humanobots which have become a popular import to the Cruan'atan sector.
The ship is augmented with three shuttle craft and a small number of short range
multi-purpose space probes. The Altanah Ne'denah has already undertaken a brief
shake down cruise for systems calibrations and full systems checks. The ship
will continue calibrations and necessary refits as it proceeds to the sector
border.
The Altanah Ne'denah's first mission will not be in this sector. Imperium
officials, when questioned, cited piracy and current contracted exploration
programs of the sector as reasons for this unique vessel being assigned
extra-sector. Imperium High Command added that this vessel will not only begin
exploration in "expansion regions," but will also "act as a vessel of diplomacy"
to other sectors and sector authorities. "It is hoped that this vessel and her
crew will act as an extension of Imperium presence in sectors who have no
knowledge of the Imperium. Through this we (Imperium) can establish contact with
other civilizations and begin roads toward diplomacy." Noted PR Representative
Heladah Terath of the Imperial Diplomatic Core, which has had a strong hand in
the completion of both the vessel and the overall project as the Altanah
Ne'denah had spent many sub-cycles stagnant in the ship yards due to both
Imperium political uncertainty, and from loss of Human contracted employees due
to political instability in human sectors.
It is not known at this time which sector the Altanah Ne'denah will proceed to
next, although the Imperium does strongly wish to send the vessel to "expansion,
or outlying border, regions of the galaxy."
Public celebrations in the capital city were somewhat demured and poorly
attended. Imperial officials cite the long wait for this vessel's launch as well
as the vessel's non-home-sector mission as explanations for this lack of
enthusiasm. In this reporter's opinion, it is a sad start to a wonderful vessel
filled with wonderful expectations.
