Good luck!.

Hi,

I baught LEGO Creator some time ago and liked it, mostly. I was
surprised by the comfort, speed and fun of building. It was very
similar to playing real LEGO. But it had a few major problems, namely:

      * Cannot tilt bricks
      * Small array of brick types
      * Proprietary data format
      * Doesn't run under Linux

Looking for a community (for exchanging models), I found
LDraw-compatible apps, e.g. MLCAD. I was surprised by the huge array of
brick types and the large community. But the apps had their own weeknesses:

      * No play mode
      * Building uncomfortable, because of lacking collision detection
        and similar tools
      * Building in 3D view impossible
      * Editors not scalable to large amounts of bricks

What I want is a game like LEGO Creator, but a bit more professional and
interoperable. I found nothing so far. (If you know an application,
which suits my needs, please tell me about it!)

My best bet is to start a new project, I think. I hope that I can
leverage a lot of code from existing open-source 3D engines and editors,
so the task is hopefully not so huge. Nevertheless, I will need help.

I wrote a mission statement. You can find it at my site:

Feedback welcome. ("Request For Comment")
