Badge, MOC Cards, and Brick Bazaar Forms are Now LIVE!

I am happy to announce that registrants can now edit their badges on their BrickFest account. Unlike previous years, BrickFest 2006 has a new design:

Attendees can edit their name, hometown, and affiliation in the three bricks under the clapboard. And yes, it’s hinged!

MOC Cards are also online, so registrants can log in their models! This year we are encouraging the attendees to print their MOC cards at home - so there is no hard deadline (The deadline on our website is the date we will be collecting all the MOC card files for Theme Coordinators). The MOC Card this year looks like this:

If you are bringing in a large MOC (larger than 2 grey baseplates - 30” - 96 studs or larger), please send an e-mail to me or the appropropriate Theme Coordinator.

If you want to sell items at BrickFest, you can now fill out a Brick Bazaar form online on your account. With the public hours extended, there’s a great opportunity to sell parts and sets, so sign up now!

Call for Presentations

If you want to do a presentation or seminar, you can sign yourself up through your account on the BrickFest site now. If you have submitted a presentation already, please resubmit, as the software was not ready until last week, and any submissions were not sent. I apologize for the error.

Theme Coordinators Announced

BrickFest’s 2006’s Theme Coordinators are (in no particular order):

Town/Train: Scott Lyttle and Robin Werner
Space: Dan Rubin and Fradel Gonzales
Mecha: Jeff Stembel
Castle: Cyndi Bradham and Ben Ellermann
Micro/Vignette: Scott Quirk
Technic: Bryan and Kathie Bonahoom
Mindstorms Challenges: John Barnes
Great Ball Contraption: Steve Hassenplug and the GBC Gang (why does that sound like a rock band?)
Sculpture/Mosaic: Derek Schin
Free Build: Patricia Van Dyke and Augie Thiessing

There are still some open slots, so if you want to be a Theme Coordinator or a volunteer and are attending, drop me a line!

BrickFest Contest Announcements

The first announced contest for BrickFest is a Steampunk Contest hosted by the Space Theme Coordinators.

For those who are unfamiliar with steampunk, this is a fan theme that is also called Victorian Science - what if machines were run on steam power, as opposed to the modern internal combustion engine? Instead of airliners, dirigibles were the method of flight, for example, with winged craft being very new contraptions.

The Steampunk contest will have the following categories:

Best land vehicle
Best sea vehicle
Best air vehicle
Best structure (includes floating rocks)

This will be a judged contest, and prizes are to be determined.

And I think that’s it for this update - the next one will have merchandise!

Later,

Joe Meno
Event Coordinator, BrickFest 2006
