Matt

I would also like to point out that the BrickFest PDX 2004 event was held at sea level and the latest “attempt” was carried out in Germany at an altitude greatly above sea level.

The differences in atmospheric density at higher altitudes allows baseballs and javelins to travel father and for water to boil at lower temperatures. Most record books profiling baseball accomplishments or Olympic records always note when record breaking attempts were performed at higher altitudes.

Clearly, this latest attempt in Germany at the higher altitude had some unfair advantage since the less dense air at that altitude allowed the builders to work more quickly. The PDX record was acheived at seal level where the builders had to fight the denser air.

So, sadly, even though this latest attempt may have only had 10 members and a mysterious 11th man from the LEGO Company (probably a Master Model Builder or the guy that desgined the ISD) who supoosedly only “timed” the 10 member team, there will have to be a footnote under this attempt indicating that this “record” breaking attempt occured at a higher elevation leading to this artificially fast time.

Good job though guys! Nice try!

Todd

(...) On the other hand, the Berlin builders had to fight the infamous "Berliner Luft", so I guess that evens out things a bit :P (20 years ago, 9-Jul-04, to lugnet.events, lugnet.events.1000steine-land, lugnet.events.brickfest, FTX)
