   So.

I’ve had a few people email me asking what’s up with all of the mom jokes and the references to my sainted mother here on LUGNET.

Well, now that I have a camera again--which is itself a story for another time--I thought I’d let the folks that weren’t in Portland see the escalation that caused all of this.

Keith Goldman and I had been trading mom jokes for a long time now, and at BF PDX, I decided to up the ante:

For the uninitiated, this is my nametag from Portland. It’s standard form to put where you’re from and your affiliation on the red and blue bricks, but that’s kind of boring--hence the idea to squeeze in a mom joke.

Well of course Keith loved it, but in the process, I had to explain to a lot of other folks that I didn’t actually hate Keith. I told people that mom jokes are one of the higher forms of comedy (as I said at PDX, I like mom jokes almost as much as I like Geoff Gray’s mom).

Anyway, this meant it was open season on mom jokes that weekend. From opening ceremonies on, there was a steady stream of them (I think Keith mentioned that it was like opening Pandora’s mother’s box. Or maybe I mentioned that. Who knows, we were drinking a lot).

I hope that clears things up for everyone, and I’m sure that others can chime in with their favorites of the weekend if further explanation or more examples are needed.

Putting the Adult back into AFOL, and the D back into your mom.

Derek, this sure makes me wish that I had been able to make it to PDX. Reminds me of my heady college days... of course, all our jokes were of the “I f***ed your mom” variety, but it’s just a small step. I look forward to seeing your mom out here in DC for Brickfest this summer.
