Well...

In an interesting question and answer session I had originally with
Brad Justus, it came to my attention that TLC did not approve of the
3D red brick ldraw.org logo.  Brad checked with the corporate counsel
about the logo, and relayed the message to me.  He told me to talk to
them for clarification.

I had a phone conversation today and exchanged several emails afteword
with the attorney.  We came to an agreement for a suitable ldraw.org
logo.  The logo won't change a ton.

The new ldraw.org logo will be a fade-to-wireframe red brick, similar
to the one Bram put on his site for a wallpaper, but the standard
ldraw.org red 2x3 at the same camera angle.  Also, they wish us NOT to
use LDRAW on the studs, instead they would like us to put LEGO, or not
have any stud detail at all.  They also ask that I add a disclaimer to
our materials stating:

"LEGO, the LEGO logo and the brick configuration are trademarks of the
LEGO Group.  The LEGO Group does not sponsor or endorse this website."

I will add this in fine print to the bottom of the sign, in a
non-intrusive manner.

At this point, I believe I will run with putting LEGO on the stud
detail, because a logo of the size it will be on the sign will seem
bare without any detail.  I believe the disclaimer should be
sufficient, but I will run the LEGO stud detail by the lawyer in the
morning.

This caused me to halt the making of the sign awaiting the new
artwork.  I'm still awaiting parts of the artwork and when its ready
I'll send it to the sign company immediately.  The logo on the website
will reflect these changes soon.  Most of our Kidvention artwork will
reflect these changes, though the attorney has been gracious enough to
allow me to keep a few already printed materials which have the old
logo - as they would be time-consuming to change.

Unfortunately this delayed the production of the sign, but every
measure will be taken to insure that the sign has arrived to where I
will be staying BEFORE Kidvention.

Special thanks goes to Jeff Boen (ONYX) who rendered the wireframe
portion of the logo in 3D Studio Max on immediate notice that I needed
help.  He did a wonderful job, you'll all be able to see his work
soon.  Also, thanks to Terry Keller who is rendering the red brick
portion, and now is making 2 more - one with LEGO on the studs, one
without any detail.  Thanks guys!!

-Tim

(...) If TLC is OK with putting LEGO on the studs, I think that is great! :) We're not playing with MegaBloksDraw here. Is this new wireframe logo just for the sign, or will it eventually go on ldraw.org as well? Steve (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw, lugnet.events)

(...) Wow, is that the exact text sent to you? I'm surprised to see "LEGO Group" there after the name change last year. (...) Wow! :) --Todd (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw, lugnet.events, lugnet.cad)
