Dear LEGO,
Thanks for the recognition that a wonderful product
such as yours can benefit from the intelligence
and vision and enthusiasm of your customers.
What did you expect? You produce products that
are intended to make people think, help people
create, and promote learning. Let the success
of these activities feed back to the real creative
people who WORK for you.
I used to demonstrate what we at my company (IBM)
thought were our Great New Products. Us Product
Developers (not just marketers) got to actually
talk to the customers. Know what? We learned a LOT
from the customers. And, most important, we caught
their enthusiasm, and were engaged by their ingenuity,
and were happily amazed when they did something really
cool with our product that We Never Even Thought Of!!
Hey, LEGO, go for the Freebies...
