You know, I get tired of hearing how we live in a capitalistic world. We don’t. Not hardly. (if you disagree, take it to off-topic.debate).

But even so, this particular seller isn’t (apparently) demonstrating much capitalism. LEGO placed a restriction on buyers, as a condition of purchase. This seller seems to have circumvented it, as far as we can tell.

That’s not capitalism. Repeat, abrogating contracts is NOT capitalism. It’s fraud. (unless there’s another explanation). Claiming to have 100 sets when you don’t is ALSO fraud, not capitalism. Repeat, false claims are not capitalism.

Reread my original post. I asked LEGO to either enforce their contract with buyers, or explain why it doesn’t apply. That’s all.

And you know what, I now have good reason to believe that LEGO is going to look into it and to the best of their ability, enforce the contract. Now, this seller may have been sufficiently devious to defeat investigative efforts. Maybe he/she actually has 40 friends, who knows. LEGO can’t solve all problems, but they can try. And I think they are indeed trying, now that it’s been brought to their attention.

That’s all I want LEGO to do. Try.(1)

As for what I would want everyone else to do? Vote with your wallet. This is the same thing I said to do about the color thing, if you don’t like it, state your case calmly (once or twice, not repetitively) and then... boycott. THAT’S capitalism.

I don’t like buyers taken advantage of this way, it’s not good for the hobby. and by letting people know about this, maybe this seller will get less business for these auctions than they otherwise would, and less business at their BrickLink store too for that matter. I know I’ll never shop there again barring some massive change in business practices by this seller, no matter what the pricing.

Since the original post I did got 12 highlights (and climbing, go ahead, highlight it, you know you want to) I think maybe other people feel the same way too.

Your mileage may vary, though.

1 - LEGO is ALSO trying on eBay. They put copies of this set in their store at the regular price. That means that some (but not all, unfortunately) searches will turn up the set as available from S@H and maybe cause a few less bids to people who are listing it and then collecting bids at 150+. Now, in a perfect world they would have listed the set as a dutch auction lot, or a regular lot (2) with a starting bid of 74.98 and a buyout price of 74.99, but maybe they didn’t think of that or can’t for whatever reason due to eBay contracts, I have no idea. But MAJOR PROPS to them for giving it a try. Repeat, MAJOR props for their caring about this. What other toy company would even care?

2 - so it would turn up even in simplistic searches by “LEGO MAERSK” or whatever

The last time I check this set (10152) is bid to $510 on Sunday, May 23rd. And guess what the seller is the ninjaprincess. I think she is going to make a killing on these 200 sets. See for yourself. You may need to copy the whole thing in your web (...) (20 years ago, 24-May-04, to lugnet.dear-lego, FTX)
