Dear Lego,
Quite possibly, I might have the largest collection of (individually
collected) Lego windows and doors in private hands, with over 6,000.
This makes building Lego Skyscrapers easy to do.
However, practically no one else (in the Lego Universe) can emulate me
and build large city buildings. This makes for a lot of disgruntled
Town System enthusiasts. This is primarily because your policy on
supplemental parts (via Service Packs) is to say, rather feeble. You
sell a window & doors service pack that contains nearly as many doors as
windows, which is not very conducive to skyscraper building. You also
sell a Dacta line of windows & doors, which although it is more "window
friendly", it is barely advertised to most collectors. Only via the
internet do most Lego enthusiasts find out about these Dacta windows.
You had a previous Dacta assortment that contained the 2x2 windows in
several colors. This windows & doors assortment would have been great
had enough people known about it before you discontinued it.
It is unfortunate that the ratio between bricks and windows (in most
Lego sets) is so heavily in favor of the bricks. On the secondary
market Lego windows of all kinds are sold at a premium, primarily
because the demand exceeds supply. During the 1950's and 1960's you
sold 9 different window types to choose from. Today's window choices
are rather more restricted.
I think that if you improved the availability of Lego windows of various
types and sizes, you will find a ready market to satisfy the demand.
