However this brings up an interesting dilemma....Brickshelf (now Brickshelf

The compilation of the scans was the idea of Kevin Loch...and he should have
intellectual property rights to the concept...even though the actual
intellectual property rights of the instructions and catalogues belong to
Lego Company.

I dunno about how IP rights to the concept of hosting LEGO instruction scans
online would work.  If someone else wanted to host scans online, I don't
think there would be anything Kevin could say about it.

The reason I say it is interesting dilemma is because Lego, and more
specifically the customer service department within Lego Company refer to
Brickshelf (now Brickshelf LLC) as the primary source of scans for
instructions....which begs the question....what happened to the instruction
information at Lego?

This is a major point I think needs serious consideration on the part of the
LEGO company.  If their operators are referring their customers to
Brickshelf, that implies endorsement on the part of LEGO -- whether or not
that is an intention of the management at Consumer Affairs or not.  Either
LEGO should not refer their customers to BrickShelf, or so long as they do
and don't provide an equivalent alternative, they should allow BrickShelf
L.L.C. to host instruction scans online free of charge, or allow them to
charge a fee for the access (bandwidth) to those scans to keep the site afloat.
