I've been also busy cataloging my LEGO collection. I use the master part
list downloaded from Peeron as a start. Eventually I found out that
especially the decorated bricks and decorated minifigs are missing as a
unique part number in the LDraw list. Because Peeron uses the Ldraw list,
it's also difficult to search for a particular decorated part in which set
it has been used.
Looking at BrickLink, most decorated parts have been assigned an unique
partnumber. I'm in big favor of that!! So, in my catalog I merged the LDraw
parts list and the BrickLink parts list into one. In practice this means
that I've added the 'additional' parts from BrickLink to my own LDraw list.
The different formats of the descriptions I just put up with....
Conclusion:
I think one full parts list in which every unique part (including the
decoration, not the stickers!) has an unique part number is highly wanted.
And then let's agree upon that everybody will use this list: both BrickLink
and all the communities based upon the LDraw list.
