  Part numbers begin appearing on bricks in 1986
 
After some investigating and the opportunity to build two MIB Lego sets from 1986, I have concluded that this was the year that Lego elements began to appear with their official part number. Here's a scan of the 4129 Freestyle Polybag (URL) looks like it is a Canadian/Mexico bag with 3-languages (if that matters). The piece count & year in the database match info on this bag. Clark (23 years ago, 8-Jun-01, to lugnet.db.scans)
