Chris,
I had about a 13 year dark age myself and never collected castle as a kid
(space was my game). For me getting into castle was a little tough and as you
can see from my creations I use very few specialized castle pieces.
I really don't care about the sets themselves so I won't pay a ton on E-Bay for
a set although I do look for figs. I do have most of the new sets and a few
<set:6097> which while the model is not great it is a very good set for parts.
If all you are looking for are parts I would not suggest any of the bigger new
sets. I get most of my gray brick and roof tiles from S@H so if you are in the
States I would suggest looking there. Otherwise looking on-line is ok I have
had some luck lately by posting in Buy-Sell-Trade and you can occasionally find
an OK deal on E-Bay but in my 8 months of checking E-bay I have only every won
4 auctions where I thought the price was reasonable.
I would fist suggest S@H, then look into sets, then on-line. Good luck it does
take some time to build a collection but mine is finally rounding out with
castle parts that I did not have until a few months ago.
