Hello!
This is my first post anywhere on LugNet.

Hi Dave.
First of all welcome to Lugnet and more importent welcome to the Castle Group.
Im honored that you chose your first post as a replay to mine.
|
Im going to admit two things right from the start. One, I dont have
|
anywhere near as much time as Id like to build, or parts to use if I did
|
have the time. And, second, Im not anywhere near the level af anyone Ive
seen on here when it comes to building, though Id definetely like to be.
|
We all started somewhere you know.
|
Now, on to the comments.
|
After lastweek James Brinks Trebuchets (which is great BTW) I started
building a catapult myself. After the great war that Castle become Bionicles
I toyed and built a catapult from Technic/Bionicles parts.
|
Im trying to put together a ballista myself, now especially, since two other
people have completed other ideas Ive had, and completed them extremely well
to boot.
|
Maybe this will help:
1. Look at this previous post of mine,
http://news.lugnet.com/castle/?n=16889
and the link to the pictures:

2. Check this ballista by Chad Northrop

But I really liked it in Tan or Light Brown or something so due that LEGO
never created those parts in those colors, I made a render of it in Tan as
well.
|
I believe that the Destroyer Droid set from Technic inludes many of the parts
youre looking for. Perhaps not in the exact color (Dark Brown me thinks),
but, if you were to use those parts instead of the white, and Grey or Dark
Grey pulleys for the wheels I think you might hit closer to the look you
want.
|
Thanks for the tip. Just for the record the entire thing is built right now from
light gray and black (no white at all).
|
I have only one critque, and that would be to try to incorporate some kind of
winch and hook to pull the bucket down for firing. And if you could take this
idea one step further (I couldnt say myself how you could manage it, thats
why I say if you could) try to add a release mechanism to the winch also.
|
I was thinking about that too. Im still thinking how to do it but all the ideas
I had so far, due to the friction, made the mechanism work much slower which
caused it to become less powerfull.
|
Fine job youve done on a catapult though, something that makes you wonder
why TLC never thought of producing sets like that themselves.
|
I really glad you liked it so much. The only reason I think TLC wont make it
because the powerfull sling might be too dangerous to kids which are their mine
target audiounce audience. I was however thinking to extent it to Siege Wars
Machines made from Technic parts: like Battering Ram, Siege Tower and
Ballistta...
Again welcome to Lugnet and Castle group and thank you very much for your
comments.
