  • Whats the latest on the future of castle? My impression has been that all of the s@h deals show a certain dedication to castle. Are there any substantiated rumors?

My impression (from Jake posting here and at FBTB and from the transcripts of the Q&A’s at Brickfest and Brickswest) is that there will not be a new Castle line released as long as the HP license is in effect (and there will not be a new Space line as long as the SW license is in effect). In the meantime, though, I actually think we’re going through a great time for castle:

Rereleases--the Black Falcon’s Fortress, the Guarded Inn, King Leo’s Castle

MOC line--the coolest line ever (IMO) started with the awesome Blacksmith’s Shop

Adventurers--Who says castle has to mean European (there was the Ninja sub-theme)? These adventurers sets expand into other cultures, lots of great figures, monsters, and elements.

Bellville--Bellville?!? Yes, that’s what I meant. Those newest Belleville sets expand on the “Orient Adventure” line with some great elements, sometimes in funky colors.

Harry Potter--On the one hand, HP is bad for castle as it prevents a “true” castle theme, but HP has lots of great elements and figures for castle uses.

Star Wars--One of the downfalls of older castle sets was that there were almost no civilian figures. Almost any Jedi torso works for a medieval setting--think about Tatooine Luke, the Emperor, Count Dooku, Old Ben, Young Ben, etc. The Genosian torso makes great armor, young Boba Fett, even C3PO’s torso looks like a Greek or Roman breastplate. Many others. Also mini-legs from Yoda (and HP goblins) are great for hobbits, dwarves, etc.

Bulk bricks--whether from S@H or from Bricklink, the heart of castle building comes down to big piles of basic bricks in gray and dark gray. These are much more available now than they were a few years ago.

Hello castle folk, I've ventured into the dark recesses of (URL) space> and the deep trenches of the (URL) ocean>. But, as always happens, the sweet call of castle building has pulled me back.
