All excellent ideas. I've used about 80% of them for my peasants, and would
use the other 20% if I ever get my hands on the torsos.
Here are some other ideas that I've used:
Luke's Endor torso
Tatooine torsos for Luke and Obi Wan
Black Jedi/Sith torsos (for Benedictine monks, with black Sith hood)
Han Solo torsos **
Pirate torso: blue jacket over olive shirt **
Pirate torso: blue top over red/white striped shirt (a bit of a stretch)
Pirate torso: green vest over white shirt (I use this for female peasants)
Armada torso: green with white frills (for female lady-in-waiting)
Armada torso: red with blue swishes/medallion (for female)**
Shogun/Emperor torsos in blue/red/white
Brown torso from SW Ep I green machine thingy (sorry, the name escapes me)
Blue/Dk.Grey Padme torso (for females)
** these ones I don't have, but would love to have.
So, with all these suggestions, hopefully that will help you to populate
your villages and towns. It's lots of fun.
