  Re: Scriptorium

(...) Thanks, Brendan. That's the effect I was going for. I'm glad it worked. The robe idea didn't come from you, did it? As I noted above I vaguely remember seeing something similar before. Bruce (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Scriptorium

(...) Thanks, Dave. I can't really claim the design as my own. I have a vague memory of seeing this sort of thing before, but when I went looking all I could find was custom capes people made as trenchcoats for Matrix figs: (URL) (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)

  Re: Scriptorium

Thanks, Marc. Any suggestion on how I could attach the chain? Or should I just have a chain that drapes across the whole front of the shelf? Bruce (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle, FTX)

  Re: Scriptorium

This is a really nice little scene, Bruce. I will echo others in praise of the monk robes and recessed bookshelves. My favorite detail is the monk on the far right who has a scroll full of writing on the left and a blank scroll on the right. It very (...) (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)

Re: Why I kept my age a secret

When critiquing I try to do a few things, most importantly provide encouragment, for some people its a big thing to present their new MOC to the world. I try to gauge the level of the builder (which isn't really an age thing) from the tone of their (...)   Re: Why I kept my age a secret

(...) I reckon you're pretty fair with your critiques, Paul. But you're right, they can be difficult, mainly because one is always unsure how they will be taken. Here's what I reckon: If you want your work critiqued, ask for it, even to the point of (...) (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.people.teens, lugnet.space, lugnet.build, lugnet.castle, FTX)

Re: Why I kept my age a secret

(...) Critiquing is tough. I've been giving ad-hoc critiques of almost everything for years and I still haven't got the hang of it... in fact, I often get the feeling that it has worked against my favour. I don't think I'd recommend it. Then again, (...) (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.people.teens, lugnet.space, lugnet.build, lugnet.castle, FTX)

Re: Why I kept my age a secret

snip (...) I think this important to note. I think alot of us, or at least myself, get stuck in a "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all" mentality. I will keep this in mind and try and do more critiquing... says the guy (...) (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.people.teens, lugnet.space, lugnet.build, lugnet.castle)

Re: Why I kept my age a secret

(...) Maybe part of it was that .space is simply BIG. Maybe part of it was that I've split energies between models and the Starship game. I don't know. But I just didn't feel the warm reception others seemed to get. Don't get me wrong--I'm not (...) (20 years ago, 24-Sep-04, to lugnet.people.teens, lugnet.space, lugnet.build, lugnet.castle)

  Re: Scriptorium

(...) I love the cloth monk robes. The idea of the brown robes made from capes and a rubber band is so simple, yet very effective. I might have to steal that idea someday. (20 years ago, 23-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)

  BWBrickCon™ 2004 Draft

As hinted at earlier, we are going to have a Draft! Okay, so what IS a Draft? It is an event where everyone brings one copy of the same (unopened) set. Hey Bruce, nice job, reminds me of "Name of the Rose" without the poison ink. Great subject matter, great execution, great details...especially the pen/ink wells and recesses book-cases. I can almost hear the chanting in the background. -Keith (20 years ago, 22-Sep-04, to lugnet.castle)
