Hi, as the author of LDView, I've got two things to add.  First, since
LDView is not an actual screensaver, you would have no way of having it come
on automatically.  However, as Calvin pointed out, it will run full-screen.
In addition, it supports Alt-Tabbing out of fullscreen mode.  If you do
this, it switches back to your desktop resolution and minimizes to just an
item in the taskbar.  Clicking on this brings it right back into fullscreen
mode.  In addition, it doesn't use any CPU time while minimized, even if the
model is spinning at the time you hit Alt-Tab.

Second, since the source is available, a Windows developer who knows how to
make a screensaver could produce a screen saver based on LDView.  I may do
this myself eventually, but haven't had time to do so yet.  Never having
written a screensaver, I have no idea how difficult this would be.

A program called LDView would probably do what you want.  It has a • full-screen
mode and uses real-time Open-GL Rendering.
You can get it here:

Has anyone made a rendering engine that could be set up as a screensaver • for
Windoze?  It would be SO COOL if my FLL team could have their robot
rotating around the laptop screen at tournaments...

(...) Combine the fullscreen mode with a generic screen saver and you now have what you're looking for. A quick search for "generic screen saver" turns up AnyServer and perhaps several others that will let you use any executable as a screen saver. (...) (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.cad.ray)

(...) It's fairly easy to make a Windows screensaver. There are a few API calls to make and catch, but mostly you just compile to a .SCR extension, and stop your program where there is keyboard or mouse activity. Steve (24 years ago, 12-Dec-00, to lugnet.cad.ray)
