Hi Michael;

I get the same problem. When I drop a new part in the "list of parts
in the model" it will show up at 0,-8,0 (or close to it depending on
the size of the part- the "y" value will change, but x,z=0).

I have tried selecting the "part which position should be inherited"
by clicking on it in one of the windows and by clicking on it in the
"list of parts in the model" windows as well. Neither seems to work.

Royce

ps The way get around this is to drop my new part in the window where
the view angle is "Top" and then using the "Enter Pos. + Rot..."
button to change the Y value.

previous part is the part currently selected when you insert the new one :-/
so please try selecting the part which position should be inherited ... then
add the new part by dragging it to the "list of parts in the model" whereever
you like ... it should inherit the position from the selected one.

You can drop the part to the part list,

I assume you mean to the list of parts in the model.  When I do this, the
part is inserted at 0,-10,0.  I have the Document Settings for new
unplaced elements set to "Same as previous"

or add it from the menu,

This works, but it is time consuming to select the part from the numbered
list.

providing you configured it correctly in the settings.

Is there a setting that I'm missing?

Is there a way to drag a part from the part window into the model, and
have it put in the same location of the previous part?  Every time I • drag
a part into the overhead view, it ends up at z=0.
