I guess I was thinking that a <SKIP> tag might be a third choice between
<HIDE> and <SHOW>, but after a few days I now think it might be
complimentary to <HIDE> and <SHOW>.  What I was trying to accomplish
was a tag which allows people to insert a part directory in a specific
location in the directory search list, but to have the programs ignore
it most of the time.  However LDRAW programs would need to have some way
to temporarily activate the <SKIP> directory for this to be useful.  The
idea was to be able to temporarily activate a normally skipped directory
to quickly see the effects of using an alternate set of parts.  Maybe
someone would use it to enable/disable unofficial parts, or (hold your
nose if you find this disturbing) perhaps enable/disable clone parts.

I suppose this could be done by substituting INI files and restarting
the program, but I thought it might be nice to try and define a tag
to make it easier and quicker.  We'd have to agree on it up front
though because there's no point having a <SKIP> tag if some of the
LDRAW programs don't skip the directory.

Ok now I understand, might be a nice idea. The drawback is that it would
"only" allow one alternate part enabling not more. I can already hear people
saying: Oh nice can you make that configureable so that I can have multiple
sub-directories to enable by selecting a configuration from a menu, let say
a SKIP opt 1, SKIP opt 2 ...?

Anyhow, I was just trying to get as many ideas out there as possible
before Lars finishes his code and things are set in stone.

Thats fine, nothing against that. I'm still open to additional ideas ...

Michael

(...) Exactly. That's what the <CLONE>, <KNEX>, <BOXES> etc. tags I mentioned previously were for. We could work out later whether these are user defined or LSC defined tags. The important part for now would be to agree that <SKIP> means ignore the (...) (20 years ago, 11-Mar-04, to lugnet.cad.dev)
