Point taken.

Are you planning to do this in DAT code exclusively, or in POV-Ray code?
I figure it is much easier to do in POV-Ray, as the POV language is much
richer.

I was hoping to use all DAT code, but am unable to.
POVray's looking kind of hard inn terms of achieving the results I'm looking
for.  So, I'm thinking of throwing away the idea of using terrain, except as
a backdrop.

I could build a bunch of planes that can be pieced together, kind of like in
SimCity.  In SC2K there are only three types of terrain tiles.  In SC3k
there are several more (the terrain has been "smoothed" a bit more).  This
would solve all my problems and it would be easier.  But, it would look
bulky and rather ugly.

I think I bit off a little more than I can chew.
