For right now, keep the layout basically how it is. I'd add posting dates
for each of the items, and put the newest items at the top. If an item
gets significantly updated, move it to the top.
You might also add icons (either textual or graphic) for each item to
provide more information. One icon could mark updates, another could be
for tutorials (a graduate's mortarboard?), how-to's (nuts and bolts?),
references (page & magnifying glass?), FAQs, etc.

Seems like "experience level" tends to mix in with "reference type" pretty
well. If you do a good breakdown on the "reference type", you don't really
need "experience level".
But having a I, II, III type level indicator wouldn't be a bad thing.
