ldlite color problem

i just installed the current version of ldlite on another computer at home and
for some reason the colors red and grey don't display very well (stud tops are
kind of obscured or don't even show--like the colors are too bright). my older
version of ldlite on another computer doesn't do this to me.
any ideas as to why this is happening and what i can do to fix it?

| (...) Two words (or so): 256-color display mode. You can check this by saving bitmaps from LDLite, then view the bitmaps in another program -- they'll probably look much better. Steve (26 years ago, 9-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)
