Im pretty sure he was talking about the Y axis there. The original face
geometry had the same number of segments around the Y axis, but only two
segments in the Y axis, while the torus primitives have 4 segments in the Y
axis.
As far as I can tell by reading it, he meant creating a script to project the
part that extends up into the torus region onto a torus with 4 segments in the Y
axis using the current geometry that is projected onto a torus with 2 segments
in the Y axis. And note that he said that it should be possible to create such
a script (which is certainly true). However, actually creating one might not be
too easy.
