I have to question calling any of these an "axle joiner". They bear no
resemblance in appearance or function to the basic Technic Axle Joiner
6538, which is actually designed to join two axles together rigidly.
None of these "axle joiner perpendicular" parts joins two axles together
in that manner; they hold one axle rigidly and one loosely (if you put
an axle in the pin hole). And then there's 32039, which can also
functionally be called a "Technic Axle Joiner Perpendicular", and it
joins them rigidly.

So what this taxonomic confusion is telling me is that we need a new
name for this type of part. The Technica database calls them "cross
blocks", which while not a very functional description, is more
distinctive for these clearly related parts (and a lot less wordy). But
since we seem to be striving for functionally descriptive part names
here, I think we need something different.

Let's see. The common element to all these parts is that they have one
or more axle holes perpendicular to one or more pin holes. I think
that's key: axle hole *and* pin hole.

How about having the base part name be "Technic Axle/Pin Joiner
Perpendicular"? That makes it clear that one set of holes is pin holes,
not axle holes. Then each part could be denoted by its size and the
arrangement of the holes.

What on Earth should this new one be called?  Technic Axle Joiner
Perpendicular 3L with 2 Holes makes some sense, but is wordy (and actually
refers to 2 *pin* holes, although it is usually implicit in existing
taxonomy that a hole not specified as "axlehole" is a pin hole).

Remove capital letters in address for direct reply.

If we understand that the "perpendicular" in the title indicates that the
axle
holes and pin holes are always at right angles, then I suggest:

32068 : Technic Axle Joiner Perpendicular 3L - Axle/-/Pin
32184 : Technic Axle Joiner Perpendicular 3L - Axle/Pin/Axle
42003 : Technic Axle Joiner Perpendicular 3L - Axle/Pin/Pin
