Here's a method I used in my (failed?) Omega attempt. Basically, the axle is
based upon a 12-long Technic axle piece surrounded by 2x2 round bricks; the
rotating section's base is a set of six 2x2->2x2 brackets interlocking with
four 2x6 plates. This has the benefit of being somewhat stronger than a bare
Technic axle piece, as it doesn't twist as much. OTOH, it does get pretty
heavy.
The following DAT file is true. Only the colors have been changed to protect
the innocent. :-,
