Well, first start off by going to www.ldraw.org/download/start/
I recommend using MLCad as your editor. Grab a copy of L3P for conversion
to POV-Ray too. When you start making models, you can convert the files to
a POV-Ray format and that's how you get the nice renderings like the ones
you see on the Model of the Month, etc. There are instructions in the files
you download, and if those don't explain it well enough we're all here and
willing to help :-)
The Get Started pages on LDraw.org will get you pointed in the right
direction - step by step installation instructions and then it will point
you off to a tutorial which will help you learn the editor you choose.
