Yes, there is a real functional difference:
part #4033 - Train Window 1 x 4 x 3 (the one with 4 hollow studs) has holes
halfway up the sides. It's primarily intended to hold part #4034 - Glass for
Train Window 1 x 4 x 3
Part #6556 - Train Window 1 x 4 x 3 New (having 2 hollow studs and 2 regular
studs) has dents instead of holes half way up the sides but it also has four
holes, one in each corner trough the bottom and top bars.
It's primarily intended to hold a pair of part #6546 - Door 1 x 2 x 3
Pane this assemby has been used as doors for the containers you'll find in
set #4555 - Freight Loading Station and set #4549 Road 'N Rail Hauler.
Because of the dents I believe it would take the #4034 Glass for Train
Window part also.
