If you have a virus checker running, you might try turning that off before
trying to apply the patch. For a while (and maybe still does) my virus
checker would go nuts whenever I tried to run it.
Also, you might try using LDAO and LDLite. With those two programs, I
hardly ever start up LDraw or LEdit. I use the Editor to add parts and the
Modeler to move them around.
